Good morning! I got up at 5:00 AM today… but it sure wasn’t easy.
Today really tested my resolve. Yesterday I did a bunch of work in the yard and was exhausted when I went to bed; today I woke up definitely feeling in my muscles that I had been doing a bunch of physical labor yesterday. I had a great sleep but could have easily slept much longer.
But the reason I got up today is because I want to build this as a habit. I don’t see myself getting up at 5:00 AM every morning for the rest of my life but for now I’m just trying to instill the discipline.
You might say that I’m trying to build references. In his book Awaken The Giant Within, Tony Robbins talks about the importance of references when you’re trying to change something. References are real or imagined supports that help you realize something is true. In this case, I’m trying to build references that it’s easy and fun and productive and profitable to get up at 5:00 AM.
This concept of references is very powerful for any habit, discipline, belief, or change in your life. The bigger the change you want to make, the more references (and the more powerful references) you need to have. Proving to myself that 5:00 AM is possible and beneficial are two of my references.
Well, I need to get moving on some projects.
