Thanks for the comment, Ryan! Agreed there are two things going on here: People don't take the right steps, or, they don't take any steps at all. There is a lot of talk about goals but far less talk about achievement.

So, what goals are you working toward in your business this year, and what steps are you going to take to get there?

(PS, Thanks for letting me know about the missing word! Fixed.)

Glad I found this article. It's great, I think too many people just start off with the end in mind (which is good) but never figure out what the actual steps to do them are, or don't actually take the steps.

also i think you are missing a word in your opening paragraph. FYI

Zach, Thank you for your comment. You're absolutely right: The freemium model helps to gain respect and build credibility and a sale is much easier after that. I think that companies that do not use the freemium model are forced to spend more on advertising to establish credibility in different ways. Freemium works for me; I love it and I'll continue to use it as long as it continues to work. Good luck as you once again get into using freemium!

Great article Aaron, as a company that once practiced "freemium" more, and is trying once again to get into using this tool I have to both disagree and agree with you (and with Erik above). Erik's probably right, there will always be those that kick the tires, and simply use free versions of your offerings (or reports, etc.).

But, this is an invaluable tool to gain respect and adoration and once that happens - the sale is that much easier. You already have their confidence, you already have them using your tool or your information/consulting services. It's the next logical step that (if you provide it) they'll pay for.
