Boom. 5:00 AM baby!
After a couple of days of struggling to reach my 5:00 AM challenge goal, I’m so glad to have woken up at 5:00 AM this morning.
In fact, I woke up a few minutes before my alarm and felt great and ready to go.
Really glad to do that.
I know that I have a tendency, if left to my own devices, to snap pretty quickly back into my “night owl” lifestyle. And this past weekend I certainly made some choices that pushed me in that direction.
The temptation is to blame my outer circumstances — my late night on Friday night with a buddy at the movie theater, which kept me from getting up at 5:00 AM on Saturday; or my late night on Saturday night because of the storm, which kept me from getting up at 5:00 AM on Sunday… but one thing I’ve been learning lately is that the outer circumstances are never in our control and they are always very easy to blame. But rather than blame something or someone else, I need to take responsibility for everything and ask myself: “what could I have done differently to create a different outcome?” Even if the situation wasn’t technically “my fault”, I can need to still take responsibility for my response to it.
I read this in Grant Cardone’s book The 10X Rule and it has synthesized so well with what I’ve been reading in Tony Robbin’s book Awake The Giant Within. Taking responsibility has been a harsh lesson for me to learn because I think it’s been my natural tendency at times to accept mediocrity and then to blame other things for not achieving more.
So, today I will celebrate my success and look forward to reaching for the same goal again.
