For years, my only interest in outer space was either another release from the Alien movie franchise or a rerun of Apollo 13 on TV. Space is interesting enough, and I’m sure the astronauts are busy doing whatever it is they do but I’ve got enough to think about down here on earth.
But my interest in space has been piqued recently by Chris Hadfield. This guy has, in my opinion, reinvigorated the space program and suddenly made space interesting and accessible at the same time. He returns to earth tomorrow and he leaves big shoes to fill at the space station.
Although my blog is usually related to business, finance, and real estate, I thought a collection of reading about Hadfield would be my little tribute to his influence:
- A look at astronaut Chris Hadfield’s scientific efforts aboard the International Space Station. This article describes some of the experiments that Hadfield has been doing in space. He’s not only the commander of the space station but he also seems to be its chief guinea pig!
- Astronaut Chris Hadfield wins over fans back on Earth. This video on this page is a good, brief explanation of some of the things that Hadfield did while in space to help promote the space program, and the article Social Space: Chris Hadfield’s greatest hits, tweeting from the ISS reveals some of Hadfield’s videos, tweets, and pictures.
- Canadian astronaut’s return to earth no cakewalk describes the grueling road ahead for Hadfield as he ends his time on the space station and returns to earth where he will continue to be part of a series of tests on the impact of weightlessness on the human body.
Hadfield has shown himself to be not only a willing participant in science but also an excellent ambassador who introduced (or, in my case, reintroduced) the marvels of space to the rest of the world.
