My best relationship advice from 15 years of marriage

My wife (Janelle) and I celebrate our 15th anniversary today. Crazy! Time has flown by since we got married on a rainy day in a small town just outside of Edmonton (in Alberta Canada).

Normally I share my thoughts on business, finance, and real estate in this blog but today I’m going to share some relationship advice with you. This is the best advice I can offer to help ensure that your relationships are as awesome as they can be…

Help the other person aspire to, and achieve, even greater things than they thought possible. Make their dreams YOUR dreams. And, do everything in your power to help them live the happiest, healthiest, and most fulfilling life possible.

A good relationship is when each person does that generously and constantly for the other. (It’s not always easy nor instantaneous, and it does take some sacrifice).

I’m thankful that Janelle has done that for me — it’s why I am a writer today because she knew how important that dream was to me and she worked and encouraged me to make it happen.

I can only hope that I’ve done the same for her: I have tried to follow through with that advice by enabling her to live her most fulfilled life — she has owned a daycare and worked in different roles as a director of children’s programs, and today, she runs her own business providing small and rural churches with training and resources for children’s ministry volunteers.

We have a ton of fun together — we’re both avid readers and coffee drinkers and travelers. We both work at home (right out of the same office!) and love it. She is the reason that I do what I do.

Happy anniversary, Janelle!
